Update: Former Google Waymo Engineer Fined Nearly $800,000 and Sentenced to 18 Months for Autonomous Car Technology Trade Secret Misappropriation

    On August 4, 2020, former Google Waymo engineer Anthony Levandowski was sentenced to 18 months in prison, fined $95,000, and agreed to pay approximately $756,500 to Waymo in restitution, in the matter of Waymo LLC v. Uber Technologies, Inc.

    Levandowski was convicted of stealing trade secrets related to self-driving car technology before leaving the Waymo project to launch his own company, Otto, which was later acquired by Uber.
