On June 18, 2019, a judge in the U.S District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia vacated a December 2018 jury verdict which awarded data security company TecSec, Inc. $1.75 million in damages for Adobe Inc.’s direct infringement of a patent related to multi-level multimedia encryption technology.
The judge concluded that while “there was sufficient evidence for the jury to find that Adobe directly infringed during the relevant damages period, there was insufficient evidence to support the $1.75 million damages award for that direct infringement” due to a faulty damages model.
