Ticketmaster Reaches Settlement in Case Regarding Unauthorized Use of Automated Bots

On July 8, 2019, Ticketmaster reached a settlement with ticket broker Prestige Entertainment West, Inc. (“Prestige”), under which Prestige is permanently enjoined from using “ticket bot software to search for, reserve or purchase tickets on Ticketmaster’s site or app.”

The copyright infringement dispute began in October 2017, when Ticketmaster alleged that Prestige accessed its website and app code to develop bots that could bypass ticket purchasing limits and purchasing order rules. Ticketmaster alleged that Prestige then used these bots to buy concert and theater tickets in bulk in order to later resell them at a substantial profit.
