NYDFS Reaches $1.8 Million Data Security Settlement with Insurance Companies

    On May 13, 2021, the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) reached a settlement agreement with First Unum Life Insurance Company and the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company over allegations that the insurance companies had failed to adhere to New York states data and cyber security regulations.

    The defendant’s agreed to pay $1.8 million in civil monetary penalties, and has agreed to bolster its data security measures to obey all state compliances.
