NIST Publishes New Standards for Protecting CUI Against Nation-State Data Security Attacks

    In February 2021, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) published “Enhanced Security Requirements for Protecting Controlled Unclassified Information: A Supplement to NIST Special Publication 800-171.”

    The updated recommendations aim to help companies protect controlled unclassified information (CUI) against “nation-state backed threats.” NIST published the enhanced requirements in light of the March 2020 SolarWinds Orion data breach that compromised several government agencies, critical infrastructure entities, and private sector establishments.
