Judge Approves $1.38 Billion Settlement in Equifax Data Breach Lawsuit

    On January 13, 2020, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia issued a Final Order in the matter of Equifax, Inc., Customer Data Security Breach Litigation.

    The Order gives final approval to a July 2019 proposed settlement under which Equifax agreed to pay at least $1.38 billion, which includes $1 billion in data security upgrades, a $380.5 million settlement fund, $77.5 million in attorneys’ fees, $1.4 million in reimbursement costs, and up to $125 million in out-of-pocket losses.
