Illinois Companies Required to Report Data Breaches Affecting 500 or More Residents to the Attorney General

    On August 9, 2019, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed an amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), SB 1624, which requires Illinois companies involved in data breaches affecting the private information of 500 or more Illinois residents to report the breach to the state attorney general.

    The updated notice will go in effect January 1, 2020, and will also require businesses to report the breach to all affected residents.
