FTC Announces Decision in Cambridge Analytica Data Privacy Dispute

    On December 6, 2019, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a Final Order and Opinion in the matter of Cambridge Analytica, LLC, finding that the data analytics and consulting company violated the FTC Act through deceptive collection of Facebook user data and failure to comply with EU-U.S. Privacy Shield principles.

    The Final Order prohibits Cambridge Analytica from misrepresenting the degree to which the company protects the privacy of users’ personal information, and requires that the analytics company apply Privacy Shield protections to the personal information it collected, or delete the information.
