On May 18, 2021, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a settlement with online water filtration retailer Filters Fast over a 2019 data breach that exposed the personal data of more than 324,000 consumers across the country.
Filters Fast has agreed to pay $200,000 to the state of New York, and has agreed to make improvements to their data security measures, including: “creating a comprehensive information security program,” “designing an incident response and data breach notification plan,” “adopting personal information safeguards and controls,” and “ensuring that third-party security assessments take place over the next five years.”
