On April 16, 2021, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit reversed a Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) inter partes review decision in the patent infringement matter of Raytheon Technologies Corporation v. General Electric Company, in which the Federal Circuit ruled that PTAB had “erred in its prior art enablement analysis.”
The patent in dispute related to a “geared gas turbine engine” used for fueling airplanes. The Federal Circuit found GE’s patents patent ineligible as obvious.
