On June 12, 2020, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois granted preliminary approval to Corner Bakery Café for a $3.2 million settlement in the data privacy matter of Jones v. CBC Restaurant Corp.
Former Corner Bakery Café employee Ebony Jones alleged that Corner Bakery had violated the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) when the company “collected, possessed and disclosed its Illinois employees’ biometric data through a finger-scan timekeeping system,” without obtaining written consent to do so from its employees.
