Cisco Ordered to Pay Nearly $2 Billion for Patent Infringement Against Cybersecurity Company

    On October 6, 2020, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ordered Cisco Systems to pay approximately $1.9 billion in damages to cybersecurity company Centripetal Networks for infringement of four patents related to network protection technology.

    The ruling comes after a month-long virtual trial held over Zoom, making this proceeding the first virtual patent infringement bench trial.
