
On May 29, 2019, Medical Informatics Engineering Inc. (MIE) reached a settlement under which the medical software company agreed to pay $900,000 to 16 state plaintiffs involved in the data breach lawsuit.
The case involves alleged violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) after a 2015 data breach of MIE’s WebChart electronic medical records (EMR) databases compromised the personal health information (PHI) of over 3.9 million patients.
