On December 4, 2020, the U.S. Congress signed into law H.R.1668, or the Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020, which requires the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to publish guidelines for federal government agencies to utilize regarding “the appropriate use and management by agencies of IoT devices owned or controlled by an agency and connected to information systems owned or controlled by an agency.”
The Act aims to ensure government agencies meet minimum requirements necessary to uphold secure information security standards and prevent potential cybersecurity risks in the future.
