Southwest Airlines Experiences System-Wide Computer Outage

    On June 15, 2021, Southwest Airlines experienced a massive system-wide computer outage, which forced the airline company to ground all flights and cancel 500 scheduled flights.

    A glitch in Southwest Airline’s network connectivity system prevented operators from receiving vital weather information. Additionally, the third-party provider Southwest Airline obtains weather-related data from had concurrently experienced sporadic system failures to their own system, which resulted in the computer system failure for Southwest Airlines.
