Software Patent Infringement Lawsuit Between Arista and Cisco Ends in $400 Million Settlement

    On August 6, 2018, Arista Networks Inc. agreed to pay Cisco Systems Inc. $400 million to settle a software patent infringement lawsuit. The dispute began in 2014 after Arista allegedly infringed three Cisco patents related to operating system software that runs Ethernet switch products and other network technologies.

    In the settlement, Arista also agreed to drop a 2016 antitrust lawsuit against Cisco and to make “limited changes to further differentiate its user interfaces from Cisco’s.”
