On January 15, 2019, the Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision to conclude the inter partes review (IPR) of a Spring Ventures LTD patent related to the use of minimally restrictive syntax to retrieve worldwide web pages.
Spring Ventures asserted the patent in a June 2016 infringement lawsuit against defendant Google, but upon inter partes review, the PTAB found the patent invalid under the doctrine of obviousness.
