Nine Counts of Trade Secret Theft Revealed Against Former Software Engineer

    On July 11, 2019, the Department of Justice unsealed an indictment from December 13, 2017, in which former software engineer Xudong Yao faces nine counts of trade secret misappropriation against his former employer, an unnamed Chicago locomotive manufacturer.

    According to the indictment, Yao provided a competing Chinese company with more than 3,000 files and source code related to the operating system for his former employer’s rail engines.
