Motorola Solutions Awarded $765 Million in Copyright Infringement and Trade Secret Misappropriation Case

    On February 17, 2020, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois awarded telecommunications company Motorola Solutions nearly $765 million in damages in a copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute against competitor Hytera Communications.

    The dispute began in March 2017, when Motorola alleged Hytera stole trade secrets related to two-way radios, and later alleged the technology company also copied confidential source code.
