In May 2021, Verizon released their 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report, which contains data privacy and security insights gained from an analysis of 29,207 security incidents and more than 5,200 confirmed data breaches in 2020.
Key insights found in Verizon’s report include: 10% of data breaches involved ransomware, which was twice as high as those seen in 2019; 80% of all data security incidences involved hacking and attacks on web applications; the median data breach cost for companies in 2020 was $21,659.
