Judge Fines Chinese Wind Turbine Maker $1.5 Million for Source Code Theft

On July 6, 2018, a Wisconsin District Court judge fined Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Sinovel Wind Group $1.5 million for stealing source code and trade secrets from U.S. energy technology company American Superconductor (AMSC). Investigators found that a former AMSC employee downloaded source code and traveled to China to adapt the software for use in Sinovel’s turbines.
