On June 27, 2019, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas awarded educational publishing company DynaStudy, Inc. $9.2 million in a copyright infringement case against the Houston Independent School District (HISD).
The case began in May 2016, after DynaStudy discovered that multiple HISD teachers posted unlicensed copies of DynaStudy’s student course notes online in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
