Decade-Long Patent Infringement Dispute Between VirnetX and Apple Ends in $503 Million Verdict

    On October 30, 2020, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ended a decade-long dispute between software company VirnetX Inc. and Apple Inc., finding that Apple must pay VirnetX $502.8 million in royalties for infringement of the company’s “VPN on Demand” technology.

    In March 2020, Apple was ordered to pay VirnetX $454 million in royalties regarding a patent infringement dispute over earlier versions of the VPN technology.
