Beijing IP Court Awards NavInfo $9.8 Million For Copyright Infringement Against Baidu

On November, 20, 2020, the Beijing Intellectual Property Court awarded Chinese software company NavInfo Co., Ltd. 64.5 million renminbi (RMB), or approximately $9.8 million U.S. dollars in a copyright infringement dispute against Beijing Baidu Netcom Technology Co., Ltd., Baidu Online Network Technology Co., Ltd., and Baidu Cloud Computing Technology Co., Ltd.

The dispute began in 2017, when NavInfo alleged Baidu had infringed upon the company’s electronic map software when Baidu continued to use the technology in their “Baidu Map,” “Baidu Carlife,” and “Baidu Navigation” platforms for three years after the companies’ licensing agreement expired in 2013.
