Banner Health 2016 Data Breach Ends in $6 Million Settlement

    On December 5, 2019, Arizona healthcare system provider Banner Health agreed to pay up to $6 million to settle a class action data breach lawsuit regarding a June 2016 breach of the facility’s IT and health systems.

    The class action lawsuit was filed in August 2016 after Banner Health informed approximately 2.9 million individuals that hackers gained access to confidential information found in “two separate computer systems—one for credit and debit cards used at 27 food service locations at Banner facilities, and another used for patient and health plan data.”
