Apple Ordered to Pay $506.2 Million to Optis Wireless in Patent Infringement Case

    On August 11, 2020, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ruled in the matter of Optis Wireless Technology LLC et al. v. Apple Inc. that Apple must pay Optis Wireless $506.2 million for infringing upon several patents held by plaintiff parent company PanOptis.

    The patents in dispute relate to 4G LTE cellular technology. This was also the first in-person jury trial for a patent dispute since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Apple stated that it would appeal the verdict.
