At DisputeSoft, Rick Watts is a Director and expert witness that specializes in failed IT implementations, including failed software, architecture, and service level delivery. Rick has delivered complex business solutions to clients spanning three continents and sized from private SMBs to the Fortune 100 and Global 500. His consulting career started in the Big Six with Price Waterhouse and has since included two positions as a delivery director with international technology firms. He has had the great fortune to have worked in the twin realms of technical architecture and project management.
Within technology, Rick’s experience includes the full life-cycle of software development from business requirements through functional and technical specifications to system design, development, testing, deployment and operations. He has designed the technical, application and solution architectures of more than a dozen systems. Rick has worked extensively with leading software products from Oracle, PeopleSoft, IBM, Microsoft, Cisco and VMware providing back-office functionality such as ERM, financials, accounting, HR, payroll, SRM, inventory control, eGRC, regulatory compliance and document management; front-office functionality such as CRM, business intelligence, risk management, business continuity, call-center and help-desk; and middle-tier services such as cloud orchestration, virtualization, SOA web services, enterprise service bus, BPM/workflow, and databases.
Within project management, Rick has worked as a project manager on small IT projects as well as a program director on large multi-team, multi-national programs, and has employed a variety of project governance methodologies. The projects he has managed have included COTS, custom software, multiple vendors, onshore/offshore staffing models, and leveraged different forms of Agile development methodology. His project experience includes failed software delivery by a vendor, failed SLA’s by an outsourcer, and failed COTS delivery by 3rd party contractors.
Rick has industry experience in telecommunications, aerospace, fossil and nuclear energy, financial services, media and entertainment including broadcast television, and others. In his career Rick has provided expertise in system performance, program governance, service level agreements, business continuity, KPI and metrics, and virtualization.
Rick is an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association and is a licensed Private Investigator for the State of Florida (C 2900564). He also provides pro bono services to investigative agencies for developing corporate security programs.
