On November 19, 2020, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York Judge Gary Brown granted defendant’s Polar Electro Oy and Polar Electro Inc.’s motion to dismiss “for lack of patent-eligible subject matter,” in the patent infringement matter of Interactive Wearables LLC v. Polar Electro Oy, et. al.
The dispute centers around two patents related to remote controllable smartwatch technology. Judge Brown ruled that Interactive Wearables’ claims failed to “transform the abstract idea of providing information in conjunction with media content into a patent-eligible application of that idea.”
