Amazon Agrees to Pay $5 Million in Virtual Assistant Patent Infringement Dispute with Vocalife

    On October 8, 2020, a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found in the matter of Vocalife LLC v. Amazon.com, Inc. et al, that Amazon must pay $5 million in damages for allegedly infringing upon Vocalife’s patent for a microphone array system.

    The patent infringement dispute began in April 2019, when Vocalife alleged that Amazon’s virtual assistant AI technology, Alexa, infringes on its patent.
